Welcome!
Welcome to the website for Dennis Matzel, author of the entrepreneurial memoir, Don’t Sell the Candy Store!

Denis is a man of great character. The challenges he has faced and the growth I’ve witnessed place him in a class of his own. Simply knowing Dennis has helped me become a better man. His faith in God is the foundation of who he is.
I wanted to tell you I read your entire book last night. I didn’t think I was gonna be able to finish it [because] I was like ‘oh I’m getting sleepy’, but […] honestly it was such a good read. I loved the parts where you’re able to give examples because I love concrete examples and I learn that way, so that was […] really helpful.
I’ve known Dennis since the Carvel Days, back in the 70’s I’m a better manager and entrepreneur because of his mentoring. I remember the most important things he taught me; work smarter, not harder and you will always succeed.
Dennis has been a constant source of guidance and encouragement throughout many important moments in my life. From helping me negotiate my car purchase after an accident, to offering marriage and spiritual counseling [guidance], to inspiring me to believe in myself and pursue entrepreneurship- his mentorship has shaped both my spiritual journey and my professional growth. I’m deeply grateful for his influence and support over the years.
Congratulations Dennis. I read it, thought it was great and highly recommend it. Very readable with a lot of useful advice, especially to younger folks starting out in their careers.
Clear on who this is for, I like it. You are making people feel comfortable whichever camp they are in. I looooove the Candy Store Story.
My dear friend and mentor, Denis has been an influence for more than 20 years and I will forever be grateful.
Dennis has been an incredible mentor whose wisdom has guided me through every aspect of life. His thoughtful advice about marriage, family and raising children has helped me stay grounded and focused on what truly matters. Professionally, his insights have challenged me to grow, take risks and pursue advancement with confidence and purpose. I am the best version of myself because of the time he has invested in me.
I love that you said there is no magic formula, it’s a lot of hard work. You are encouraging [a] decision. I think I like both, I need flexibility and balance.
Dennis has been a treasured mentor and friend to my family since 1989. His counsel and encouragement have always been guided by wisdom, love and selflessness. He has been a truly trusted source of guidance in my life-steady, compassionate and wise beyond measure.
Dennis has been a constant anchor for our family. His grace, wisdom, knowledge and peace has grounded our family and kept us on a healthy path.
I wish Dennis good luck and God’s favor in touching people’s lives through this book. We have known one another for 70+ years and throughout this time as a compassionate and Godly person, always trying to help others. May his book bring joy and inspiration to others’ lives.
I read the book this past weekend and loved it.
Dennis and I have worked together for 28 years on a number of projects. His ability to help resolve communication issues and challenges has been instrumental. In addition, with his many years of business experience, he’s able to see things that most cannot. More often than not, those insights have been invaluable.
